Gastón Guruceaga , full name Gastón Guruceaga Fagúndez , (born March 15, 1995 in Artigas ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The goalkeeper Guruceaga, who is 1.89 meters tall according to the club and 1.94 meters according to other sources, was already in the squad of the Uruguayan first division club Atlético Peñarol in the 2012/13 and 2014/15 seasons . In April 2013 he was a substitute for a first division match. However, he was not used in the Primera División during this period . He made his first division debut on August 16, 2015 in a 3-0 away win against Club Atlético Cerro with a starting eleven. In the 2015/16 season, he played 31 first division matches and five games in the 2016 Copa Libertadores . In the 2016 season, Guruceaga was used 13 times in the league and twice in the Copa Sudamericana 2016 . During the 2017 season he was used 21 times in the league. Guruceaga has been loaned out repeatedly since 2018: He played in Paraguay, Argentina and currently in Chile.

National team

Guruceaga made his debut under coach Fabián Coito on August 30, 2010 in a 3-0 win in the friendly international match against Peru in Uruguay's U-17 team . Overall, he has two national team appearances in this age group. In March 2014, he took part in the course of the Uruguayan U-20 national team. He celebrated his U-20 debut on April 15, 2014 with a starting eleven, also under Coito, in a 3-0 win in the friendly international match against the Chilean selection. He was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the U-20 South American Championship 2015 in Uruguay. Uruguay took third place. He also took part with the team in the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand . He was used four times during the tournament.

In a preselection made by the coaching staff around Fabián Coito of the players who might be nominated for the Uruguayan U-22 squad at the Pan American Games 2015 in Toronto , he was also taken into account, as well as in the preliminary squad announced on May 19, 2015. In the end, however, he was not nominated for the Games.

In 2016 and 2017, he was appointed to the squad four times for the Uruguayan national soccer team. Among other things, he was nominated for the World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Colombia, but remained unused in all four matches.

Guruceaga was one of four emerging international goalkeepers who featured in Fox's 2018 TV documentary "Phenoms". Next to him, Alphonse Areola , Jack Butland and Aleksandr Selikhov were portrayed.
