Alphonse Francis Aréola (born February 27, 1993 in Paris ) is a French soccer goalkeeper with Filipino ancestors.
Career
Beginnings and borrowing
From 2008 to 2009 Aréola went through the performance center of the French Football Association , the INF Clairefontaine . In 2009 he moved to Paris Saint-Germain .
In the 2010/11 season he was in the professional squad for the first time. He made his Ligue 1 debut on matchday 37 of the 2012/13 season . In the 3-1 home win against Stade Brest , he came on in the 47th minute for Salvatore Sirigu . Paris won the championship title this season, so Aréola is also French champion. In the following season 2013/14 he was loaned to Ligue 2 for RC Lens . There he was a regular goalkeeper and completed 35 league games. In the end, he finished second with RC Lens and rose to Ligue 1.
For the 2014/15 season he was loaned to the first division club SC Bastia . There, too, Aréola established himself as a regular goalkeeper and completed 35 league games.
For the 2015/16 season , Aréola moved to the Spanish Primera División for Villarreal for one season . He completed 32 league games. In the Europa League , Mariano Barbosa was preferred in the group stage. In the knockout phase , Aréola played both games of the sixteenth finals and played one game each in exchange with Sergio Asenjo in the round of 16, quarterfinals and semi-finals, in which they were eliminated by Liverpool .
Return to PSG
For the 2016/17 season , Aréola returned to Paris. Under head coach Unai Emery , he took turns with Kevin Trapp in goal. While Aréola played 15 league games (14 times from the start), Trapp was in the PSG goal 24 times (all in the starting XI). In the Champions League , Aréola was used in all group games , but Trapp was preferred in the two round of 16 games against FC Barcelona . While PSG finished 2nd in the league behind AS Monaco , the club won the cup and the league cup .
For the 2017/18 season , Aréola was finally declared a goalkeeper. He played 34 league and 8 Champions League games. Aréola became French champions for the second time in his career and also won the French Cup, League Cup and Supercup. For the season 2018/19 was Thomas Tuchel new head coach. While Trapp returned to Eintracht Frankfurt , Gianluigi Buffon was newly committed, with whom Aréola took turns again. Aréola has played 21 league and 3 Champions League games. Buffon, on the other hand, 17 league and 5 Champions League games. PSG were again champions and Supercup winners.
After the season Buffon left the club again, whereupon Aréola went as a regular goalkeeper in the first games of the 2019/20 season.
real Madrid
After Aréola had played the first 3 league games of the new season, he moved to Real Madrid on loan from the beginning of September 2019 until the end of the 2019/20 season . In return, Keylor Navas moved to PSG. Under head coach Zinédine Zidane , Aréola replaced Thibaut Courtois . He completed 4 league games and was Spanish champion and Supercup winner with Real . After the round of 16 in the Champions League in August 2020, he left the club.
National team
Aréola went through all U-teams of the Fédération Française de Football . With the U19 he reached the semi-finals at the U19 European Championship 2012 in Estonia . The following year he was able to celebrate the title at the U20 World Cup in Turkey in 2013 . Here the Aréola team prevailed against the U20s from Uruguay 4-1 on penalties. In 2018 he became world champion as part of the French squad. He played his first international match against Germany in the Nations League on September 6, 2018 .
