Daniel Templon
Daniel Templon (born February 19, 1945 in France ) is a French gallery owner and art dealer whose gallery in Paris is dedicated to modern art .
Act
As early as 1966, at the age of 21, Templon opened his first 40 m² gallery in a vaulted cellar in Paris' Rue Bonaparte. There he exhibited French avant-garde artists such as Christian Boltanski , Ben and Martin Barré and introduced foreign artists such as Carl Andre , Donald Judd , Manfred Mohr , Clay Ketter , Dan Flavin , George Brecht , Wolf Vostell and Sol LeWitt to the French audience. The 4th documenta 1968 became a key aesthetic experience for him. In 1972 he traveled to the USA for the first time and became Leo Castelli's European partner .
Templon founded the contemporary art magazine art press with Catherine Millet in 1972 . In the same year he moved to a disused hat factory in the Rue Beaubourg as the first gallery in the Marais . In 1986 he founded another art magazine Artstudio . From 1989 to 1993 he ran an art foundation in the south of France, in Fréjus .
The artists represented by Templon included z. B. Arman , Daniel Buren and Jean-Marc Bustamante . In close collaboration with the New York art house Leo Castelli , Templon was able to make prominent American artists known in Europe in the following years. These include Jean-Michel Basquiat , James Rosenquist , Roy Lichtenstein and Frank Stella . Today, alongside other European artists, he represents Valerio Adami , Oda Jaune and Norbert Bisky as well as Americans such as Larry Bell .
