Daniele "Danny" Salvatore Dichio (born October 19, 1974 in Hammersmith ) is a former English football player of Italian descent. Most recently, he played for the Canadian club Toronto FC in the American professional football league Major League Soccer .

Athletic career

His career began in his native England with the Queens Park Rangers . In 1997 the striker went to Italy to play for Sampdoria Genoa . But he couldn't prevail there and went back to England after a brief stint at US Lecce .

From 1998 to 2007 he played for various English clubs before moving to Canada to play for the newly founded club Toronto FC. On May 12, 2007 he became the first player in the club's history to score a regular goal for Toronto FC.

On March 18, 2009 Dichio announced his resignation at the end of the 2009 season , then took on the role of a club ambassador in Toronto and the surrounding area and also joined the expanded coaching staff of Toronto FC.

Together with Jason Bent, he leads the senior team of the TFC Academy, which play in the Canadian Soccer League .
