Danny Biega (born September 29, 1991 in Montréal , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played ten games for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League on the position of defender during his active career between 2009 and 2016 . He was mainly active for the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League . His older brother Alex Biega is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Biega initially played at Salisbury School from 2007 to 2009 while in high school . From there he went to the renowned Harvard University , where he spent the next four years in addition to his studies for the university team in ECAC Hockey , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During this time he received numerous individual awards and was selected in the third round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in 67th position by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League .

After completing his studies, the defense attorney signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Hurricanes in March 2013 . He made his professional debut with the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League , which served as the Carolinas farm team , during the 2012/13 season . Biega also spent the entire 2013/14 season there . After the defender had also spent the 2014/15 season with the Checkers until mid-March 2015, he was finally appointed to the Carolinas NHL squad. He completed ten NHL games for the Hurricanes by the end of the season, in which he collected two scorer points . He then spent the entire 2015/16 season in the AHL with Charlotte.

As his contract was not extended in the summer of 2016, Biega ended his active career at the age of 24.
