Danny Gürtler
Danny Gürtler (born July 8, 1875 in Darmstadt , † April 30, 1917 in Lichtenberg near Berlin ; real name: Georg Daniel Gürtler ) was a German cabaret artist , poet , actor and film actor . He also published under the pseudonym Walter Emil Diller .
Life
On January 5, 1902, Gürtler played the title role in the world premiere of Georg Büchner's play Dantons Tod at the Volksbühne Berlin . He then worked as a castle actor in Vienna before he was hired by Paul Lindau at the Deutsches Theater with “one-day notice”. In 1913 he was admitted to a psychiatric institution - at least for the second time since 1911. Gürtler died mentally deranged in the lunatic asylum Herzberge in (Berlin-) Lichtenberg. Gürtler was sentenced to one month in prison for religious offenses by the regional court in Stuttgart.
Danny Gürtler was buried in the Waldfriedhof Darmstadt (grave site: L 4a 12). After his death, an actor appeared as “ Danny Gürtler d. J. “in the Berlin cabaret Schall und Rauch and in several films.
