Daniel "Danny" MacAskill (born  December 23, 1985 on the Isle of Skye ) is a Scottish bike trial and mountain bike professional. He is best known for his risky stuns and creative video ideas on YouTube. With the Drop and Roll Tour, which he founded, he is on the road with other trial stars all over Europe.

Career

Danny MacAskill grew up in the village of Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye ( Hebrides ). He received his first bike at the age of four and his first trial bike at the age of eleven. After leaving school, he moved to Edinburgh as a bicycle mechanic .

On April 19, 2009, Danny MacAskill published a five and a half minute video entitled Inspired Bicycles on the Internet video portal YouTube , which was viewed approximately 350,000 times within the first 40 hours alone. In January 2018 the cumulative number of viewers reached 38,349,367. The former racing cyclist Lance Armstrong commented on the video as “an absolute must watch” (German for example: “you have to see it”). The song "The Funeral" played in the video comes from the American rock band Band of Horses .

One of his films, in which "A Little Piece" ran in the background about his tricks , became the unofficial music video for the Australian indie band The Jezabels , which earned them a lot of attention in the network community. At the beginning of 2009 MacAskill gave up his job as a mechanic at a bicycle dealer in Edinburgh in order to devote himself fully to bike trials with his stunt group “The Clan” . In June 2009, MacAskill made an appearance in the music video for the Doves' single Winter Hill .

The bicycle from the YouTube video was auctioned on the eBay auction platform in November . The proceeds of 3100  £ (3400 €) should the BBC project Children in Need benefit. He repeatedly cited Martyn Ashton as one of his role models, who has been paralyzed since an accident in 2013 and is dependent on a wheelchair.

MacAskill lives in Glasgow .
