The Doves are a British rock band from Manchester .

The band is known for their wide, epic sound . They are compared to both Radiohead and classic Manchester bands like The Stone Roses , New Order and The Smiths .

Band history

Doves was founded by the brothers Jez Williams ( guitar ) and Andy Williams ( drums and vocals ) together with Jimi Goodwin (vocals, bass and drums), who met at school when they were 15. They first played in the Madchester- influenced band Sub Sub with whom they also had limited success in the early 1990s, including the single Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use) . At the end of the 1990s her style changed more and more into a rock direction. The band regrouped, changed their name and released three EPs in 1998 and 1999 .

Her first album Lost Souls was received positively by critics in 2000 and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize . Her second album The Last Broadcast was released two years later, reached first place in the UK album charts and was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. 2003 appeared B-sides - Compilation Lost Sides and DVD Where We're Calling From . Her next album, Some Cities , was released in early 2005 and returned to first place in the charts . On April 3rd, 2009 her fourth studio album "Kingdom of Rust" was released in Germany.
