Danse Macabre was a Belgian dark rock band, which today operates under the name Satyrian .

Band history

Gunther Theys of Ancient Rites founded Danse Macabre with Sotiris Vayenas ( Septic Flesh ) and George Zaharopoulos ( Necromantia and then Rotting Christ ). However, the 2-track demo was never released. Shortly thereafter, the project collapsed.

In 1997 Theys found a new, international line-up. With the support of Jan Yrlund , his bandmate at Ancient Rites, Miloš Marićević (bass), Arik Politi (keyboards), Merijn Mol and singer Kemi Vita, the debut album Totentanz was recorded, which was released in 1998 by Mascot Records . As a bonus, the two tracks from the previous lineup were on the album.

In 2000 Danse Macabre moved to Hammerheart Records . The second album Eva was created with the participation of numerous guest musicians. The piano pieces by Oliver Philips (Everon) were recorded. Judith "Ciara" Stüber and Antoinette Legel took part on the album as guest singers. Musically one moves in the intersection of electro , gothic rock and metal with clear borrowings from The Sisters of Mercy . The album received very favorable reviews in Germany.

The EP Matters of the Heart , the group's final release, included several remixes of older songs and a video for the song Danse Macabre . Theys can no longer be heard on the album. Instead, Roman Schönsee (from Pyogenesis ) sang the songs again.

The remaining band members Kemi Vita, Judith Stüber, Roman Schönsee, Jan Yrlund, Miloš Marićević, Merijn Mol and Oliver Philips moved to the Netherlands and renamed themselves Satyrian in 2004 .
