Danville is a city in Yell County in the US state of Arkansas , United States with 2,392 inhabitants ( 2000 ). Together with Dardanelle , the city is one of two seats of the county administration ( County Seat ). The urban area has a size of 11.2 km².

Most of the urban area is south of the Petit Jean River . Neighboring towns in the north are Corinth and Belleville .

history

The place was settled in the early 1840s and named after a river steamer that occasionally sailed the Petit Jean River. Soon after, the county seat was moved to Danville. The first courthouse was built in 1844. On February 6, 1899 Danville was an independent administrative unit ( Town ). Finally Danville became a town (on February 18, 1919 City applicable).

The economic base of the city is formed by poultry breeding and processing. Wayne Farms , founded in 1970, had 865 employees in 2007.
