Dariusz Wdowczyk (born September 25, 1962 in Warsaw , Poland ) is a former Polish soccer player and current soccer coach .

Club career

Wdowczyk made his debut in the Polish Ekstraklasa in 1981 with his hometown club Gwardia Warszawa in the WKS Gwardia Warszawa stadium . At Gwardia he played for two years in the top Polish division Ekstraklasa before moving to city rivals Legia Warsaw in 1983 . At Legia, he became an absolute top performer and top player. After seven successful seasons at Legia, Dariusz Wdowczyk moved to Celtic Glasgow in Scotland in 1990 . Wdowczyk also quickly became a regular at Celtic and spent a total of five seasons with the Scots. In 1994 he moved to Reading FC in the English second division. At Reading, he made 82 league games in four seasons. In 1998 he returned to Poland and played the first half of the 1998/99 season for Polonia Warsaw before ending his professional career that same year.

National team

For the Polish national football team , he completed 53 games and made his debut on September 12, 1984 in Helsinki against Finland (2-0). He played his last international match on May 9, 1992 in Salzburg against Austria (4-2).

Coaching career

Dariusz Wdowczyk coached the capital city club Polonia Warsaw from 1998 to 2000 . With Polonia he won the Polish championship, the Polish league cup and the Polish Supercup in 2000. After a bad first half of the 2000/2001 season, Wdowczyk was dismissed. From 2000 to 2001 he coached the Polish first division club Orlen Płock . Then from 2001 to 2002 the traditional Polish club Widzew Łódź . After the dismissal at Widzew in July 2002, Wdowczyk took over the then third division Korona Kielce . Here he worked from 2002 to 2004 and made it from the 3rd division to the 2nd division and then to the Ekstraklasa (although he moved to Legia Warsaw shortly after the first half of the 2004/2005 season). From 2005 to 2007 he coached the top Polish club Legia Warsaw. With Legia he won the Polish championship in 2006. Wdowczyk was sacked in April 2007 after Legia Warsaw missed the UEFA Champions League and was eliminated from the UEFA Cup and the Polish Cup. He was then from July 2007 to the end of October 2007 sporting director at the Scottish club Livingston FC , before joining the then second division Polonia Warsaw in late 2007. On March 28, 2008, he was arrested by the CBA (Polish Anti-Corruption Bureau). He was accused of bribing referees and officials several times during his time at Korona Kielce. He was then dismissed without notice from Polonia Warsaw. Since then he has coached the Polish fourth division club Korona Góra Kalwaria . He held this post until March 2009. At the end of March 2013, he took over the coaching position at the Polish first division club Pogoń Szczecin .
