Daruvar |
Daruvar ( Hungarian Daruvár , German Daruwar , Latin Aqua Balissae ) is a city in the Croatian Slavonia . With the incorporated villages of Daruvar Vineyards, Doljani , Donji Daruvar, Gornji Daruvar, Lipovac Majur , Ljudevit Selo , Markovac and Vrbovac , the population is 11,633, the core town itself has 8,567 inhabitants. The area is 64 km².
history
The small town has only had its current name since 1771.
Daruvar is located in an area with a long history of settlement. According to archaeological findings, the valley in which the town and thermal baths are located was settled in the Stone Age.
Greek and Roman writers wrote about the Pano-Celtic tribes who inhabited these areas and called them Jazi ( Iassioi or Iassi ), which means "healers". When the Romans invaded Pannonia, the Jazygen were allies of the emperor Augustus .
1837, the city was founded by Emperor Ferdinand I to Freistadt explained. In 1895 the place is described as a market and health resort in the Croatian-Slavonian Požega county , on the Barcs – Pakrácz railway line, with three churches, a castle, district court, marble quarries and (1890) 1,663 inhabitants. The thermal bath, now called Daruvarske toplice , had five springs (42–46 ° C) , which were already known as Thermae Jasornenses in Roman times .
