The eye of the spider (original title: L'occhio del ragno ) is a gangster film from Italian production, which Roberto Bianchi Montero directed with Klaus Kinski in one of the leading roles. The film was released in German-language cinemas on March 10, 1972.

action

In a robbery, Paul Valery is abandoned by his accomplices. After his conviction, he manages to escape, whereby Professor Krüger, who financed the attack and was himself the victim of a double game, lets his relationships play. Paul, who is undergoing facial surgery, is supposed to get the money back.

So Paul follows in the footsteps of Mark and Hans Fischer, the traitors. When he finds her, there is a fatal end for everyone involved due to the different interests.

criticism

"Montero put a lot of effort into it, and it was worth it," sums up Michael Cholewa, who especially praises the soft beat sound of the music. On the other hand, the lexicon of international films considers the work to be a "stenciled crime thriller, with luxury features and increased brutality."

Italian critics regard the film as "a kind of kaleidoscope of the typical B-film of the 1970s: a fine example of how careful execution and form triumph over a banal and predictable plot." M. Cavagnaro criticizes the remarkably few claims of the former actor Bianchi Montero as a director to his actors: "It's downright painful to see how he uses Van Johnson, for example."

Remarks

The film was released again in 1977 under a new title, which was to benefit from the success of the "Kaliber 38" title.
