The Eye of the Eagle is a Danish children's film from 1997.

action

The action takes place in the Middle Ages . The twelve-year-old Valdemar is brought to a monastery by his father, the Danish king, to live with Bishop Eskil. The king goes to war, and with the bishop the king thinks Valdemar is safe. But the bishop plans a revolt against the king. For this he hires the one-eyed man. The one-eyed man has a trained eagle. With the help of the eagle he can hunt his victims.

Valdemar discovers the bishop's plans and flees the monastery. He is accompanied by Aske, a kitchen boy. They manage to flee from the one-eyed man. In the meantime, the bishop can stir up the liege lord against the king. When the king reappears at the monastery, the trap snaps shut and the king is taken prisoner. But Valdemar and Aske can warn some of the king's knights in time, and so they can strike back and free the king.

Reviews

According to the lexicon of international film , the film was "[e] impressively photographed and, above all, played convincingly by the small actors". The “technically perfect film” offers “the best family entertainment”. “The spectacularly staged story promises adventure with lots of action; but next dramatic struggles of the film convinces with picturesque landscapes, "was the Nürnberger Zeitung . The Nürnberger Nachrichten described the film as "[f] amilia-friendly entertainment of the better kind" that was "exciting for young and old alike [d]".

Awards

The film won the 1997 Cinekid International Film Prize . In 1998 he was awarded the Bonton Company Prize at the Czech Zlín Film Festival as well as five Robert Prizes:
