occupation

The Secret is an international feature film by director Dani Levy from 2000. The film, produced in the Circle Vision format, was produced exclusively for a theme park. The film premiered on June 1, 2000 in the Autostadt theme park near Wolfsburg.

action

The story, told in the form of a modern fairy tale, is about the journey of a shy librarian ( Meret Becker ) who has to go to a dreamland in search of the love of her life and has to endure various adventures there in search of herself. The film begins in a child's room where a young couple (Meret Becker and Felix Eitner ) entrust their daughter ( Cornelia Gröschel ) to the care of their grandfather ( Michael Gwisdek ) before going to the theater . The daughter, worried about whether and when her parents will return home, is distracted by the grandfather with a spontaneously made up story. Her parents and her grandfather play an important role in it.

Production notes

The film was shot in the Circlevision format. This format plays on the cinema screen at 360 ° and allows the viewer to stand in the middle of the film. Globally, there are only a handful of cinemas set up for this purpose, most of them in theme parks and built especially for the films. For the shooting of a Circle Vision film, 9 film cameras in 35 mm format are mounted on a special mirrored tripod. Only two of these devices exist worldwide: Both were developed by Don Iwerks on behalf of Disney. Since Disney only makes its own camera rig accessible for the production of films for its own theme parks, equipment that is privately owned by Don Iwerks had to be used. During filming in Bavaria Studios , in Iceland and in the USA, there were 12 Arri-3 cameras on the film set. 9 cameras were used to shoot in parallel to ensure the all-round view effect, 3 more cameras were ready to shoot as reserve devices on location .

The film's soundtrack, composed by composer Niki Reiser , was recorded in Prague by a live orchestra and choir.

Entrances

The film has had over 10 million viewers since its premiere in June 2000, making it one of the most successful films by director Dani Levy and Condor Films .

World Sales

The secret is only shown in the special event cinema at the Autostadt theme park near Wolfsburg. Due to the 360-degree rotation format, there is no way to reproduce the viewing experience of the film on a single screen using DVD or Blu-ray.
