action

Edmond's wife and daughter are killed in a serious car accident. Edmond believes it was suicide and blames himself for the death of his family. To get Edmond out of his depression , his friend Kogi recommends the house of the "sleeping beauties". Run by the "Madame" Establishment is an illegal private club, prevailing in the strict rules: no rape, no contact with women and watch any questions.

Edmond visits the club more and more often and spends night after night next to an anesthetized woman. He touches her, caresses her and licks her, which excites him, but never really satisfies. He talks to the sleeping women about death and women, especially about his mother. Edmond's addiction to the place grows, as does his need to break the rules and his longing for death.

Meanwhile, mysterious deaths of women are piling up in the house of the sleeping beauties, whose corpses are dumped in the river. Nevertheless, "Madame" Edmond always puts new women in bed.

Reviews

“The new directorial work by Vadim Glowna, also known as an actor, is an adaptation of the Japanese novel 'The Sleeping Beauties' by Yasunari Kawabata. He succeeds in preserving its poetic, melancholy style. An old man's fantasy, dark, peculiar, beguilingly strange - composed with careful images, fed from a dark, muted color palette. "

- Focus: film

“The plot was moved from a timeless Japan to today's Berlin, although the film never makes it very clear what the appeal of doing this might have been. Furthermore, Glowna steered the matriarchal subtext of the original in a different direction with thriller elements. […] From the very first moment, from the first note of the worn, jazzy film music, a heavy curtain of sadness, loneliness and permanent reflection on the sometimes dreamlike images descends. [...] The scenario that the film creates is morbid, not frivolous. "
