The Land of the Deaf (Russian: страна глухих) is a Russian-French crime film by the director Valeriy Todorovskiy from 1998 based on the novel Have and Own by Renata Litvinova .
The film, which is set in the present, addresses the unusual relationship between two women, one of them a deaf night club dancer and the other on the run from the mafia , and the dream of an imaginary paradise .
action
Rita gets into a difficult situation: her boyfriend is unable to pay his debts and leaves them as collateral for the moneylenders. She manages to escape, the deaf nightclub dancer Jaja saves her and hides her with her. Jaja only keeps her dream alive: to save money together and to emigrate to the imaginary, magical “land of the deaf”, where only deaf people live and where good and justice rule. Both suddenly stand between two mafia-like gangs, the pigeons and the normal.

The film was nominated for several awards, for example in 1998 for the Golden Bear in Berlin, 1999 for the Crystal Star in Brussels and the Nika for best director, best film and best music. The film won
