history

In 1881 Germany's first official telephone book appeared in Berlin under the name “Directory of those involved in the telephone system”. The number of registered owners of a telephone connection is still very manageable. In the course of advancing technical development and the growing interest of the population in telephony, the number of registered subscribers rose rapidly, as did the spread of the directory medium.

In 1981 the official telephone book was privatized. From then on, the publishers organized in the Association of German Information and Directory Media (VDAV) and Deutsche Postreklame, founded in 1946, published regional editions of the telephone directory under the title “Telephone Book” . After the reunification of Germany, the German Postreklame was 1990, a 100 percent subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom in 1994 and was in De funnel Te lekom Media GmbH ( DeTeMedien renamed). In 1999 DeTeMedien and the telephone book publishers founded Das Telefonbuch-Servicegesellschaft mbH as a joint venture. Your task is the coordinated further development of the products as well as the control of the common appearance of the brand "Das Telefonbuch".

In November 2015, Deutsche Telekom announced that it would sell its subsidiary DeTeMedien and sell the telephone directory to regional publishers by 2017 at the latest. Since the sale of DeTeMedien to a consortium of medium-sized publishers on June 14, 2017, the company has been called Deutsche Tele Medien GmbH .
