Data portability
Dataportability is the idea that users can move, copy, control and share their identities, profiles, photos, videos and other data from various online platforms.
The project
DataPortability is the name of a project, the aim of which is to define generally applicable procedures for implementing the DataPortability idea. Existing open standards and protocols are to be used for this purpose, in order to enable the portability of user data between online tools, social networks and other online services.
The DataPortability project was founded in November 2007 by Chris Saad and Ashley Angell of Faraday Media.
In January 2008, several major online services joined the DataPortability group: Google , Facebook and Plaxo on January 8, 2008, followed by Drupal , Netvibes and Mystrands , followed by LinkedIn , Flickr , Six Apart and Twitter , as well as Digg and Microsoft .
Technologies and standards
There are a large number of already existing, open standards, such as microformat , which aim at the portability of data. These are e.g. B.
Security and Protection
The international technical standardization initially only comprises the formatting of data, but neither its security against falsification nor protection against theft. The extent to which such security is achieved or protection is granted depends exclusively on the respective providers who implement these standards and, if necessary, supplement them with further measures.
