Daucus pusillus is a species of the carrot genus ( Daucus ) withinthe umbelliferae family (Apiaceae). It is distributed along the west coast of North America from the Canadian province of British Columbia through the southern United States to Baja California . English-language common names are American wild carrot. and rattle-snake-weed.

Daucus pusillus should not be confused with the highly poisonous spotted hemlock ( Conium maculatum ).

Daucus pusillus is distributed along the west coast of North America from the Canadian province of British Columbia through the southern United States to Baja California . In Baja California, for example, it occurs together with Diplacus aridus and Adiantum jordanii .

Taxonomy

Daucus pusillus was first published in 1803 by André Michaux in Flora Boreali-Americana , Volume 1, page 164. The specific epithet pusillus means “small” or “narrow”.
