Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich ( DDDBMT and DDDBM & T for short ) was a British rock group that released a number of hits in the 1960s .

biography

The band was founded in 1961 in Salisbury, England by the singer and former police officer David Harman (" Dave Dee ", born December 17, 1941 in Salisbury; † January 9, 2009 in London), the bassist and former house painter Trevor Leonard Ward-Davies ( "Dozy", born November 27, 1944 in Enford; † January 13, 2015,) the guitarist and worker John Dymond ("Beaky", born July 10, 1944 in Salisbury), the drummer and motor mechanic Michael Wilson ("Mick", * March 4, 1944 in Amesbury) and the guitarist and painter Ian Amey ("Tich", * May 15, 1944 in Salisbury). Soon after, they gave up their civil professions to earn money as musicians. In addition to appearances in the United Kingdom, they also had occasional engagements in Hamburg ( Star Club , Top Ten Club ) and in Cologne (Storyville). The band's original name was Dave Dee And The Bostons .

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich - Bend It

In the summer of 1964, the pop music authors Ken Howard & Alan Blaikley became aware of the band and signed a record deal with them. They called themselves Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich now . Between 1965 and 1969 the group had great success. Her hits include a. Hideaway , Zabadak , Last Night in Soho and The Legend of Xanadu . Almost all hits came from the pen of the writing team Ken Howard & Alan Blaikley, whose consistently cleverly written songs ensured the band's long-term success. After Hold Tight sold 250,000 copies, the ambiguity-riddled Bend It became its first million seller . Legend of Xanadu became their second and final hit, grossing over a million copies.

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, 1967

While the band could not gain a foothold in the US , it was in other countries, u. a. in Germany, a hit parade. In 1967 she received the Golden Bravo Otto from the youth magazine BRAVO because of her popularity in Germany .

In September 1969 Dave Dee left the group to pursue a solo career (including as co-moderator of the German " Beat Club "). The rest ( DBM & T ) of the band released new recordings until 1972. Since the success of these releases failed to materialize, the band broke up.

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, 1967

In the 1980s, the group - without Dave Dee - appeared again. In 1986 a single was released under the band name The Boys . In the 1990s , the original line-up came back together with Dave Dee as part of the revival movement.
