David Allan (born January 1, 1951 in Melbourne , † June 6, 1989 ibid) was an Australian cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1975 David Allan won the Belgian Ronde van de Kempen cycle race . Three years later he won in his home country Melbourne-Warrnambool , which he won again in 1982, and he was Australian runner-up in road racing . In 1980 he decided the Herald Sun Tour and the Midlands Tour for himself, which he won a second time in 1984.

In 1980 Allan was Australian championship points race and 1985 team pursuit . He also started at nine six-day races of which he 1976 together with Phil Sawyer that in Newcastle won.

Allan was killed in a car accident on June 6, 1989. He was the younger brother of racing driver Donald Allan and a cousin of Peter Besanko .

Honors

In 1976 David Allan was named Australia's “Cyclist of the Year” with the Sir Hubert Opperman Trophy .
