The Dutch painter David Bailly (* 1584 in Leiden ; † 1657 ibid) was a son of the painter Pieter Bailly and dedicated himself primarily to portraiture . Besides emerged vanitas .

biography

In addition to his father, he was taught by the engraver Jacques de Gheyn, which may explain his detailed drawing style. From 1601 he worked for the painter Cornelius van der Voort in Amsterdam .

From 1608 to 1613 he toured Germany and Italy . Among other things, he stayed in Hamburg for a year , traveled to Venice and Rome and worked at various German courts.

After his return, he portrayed students and professors at Leiden University .
