David Bedford (musician)

David Vickerman Bedford (born August 4, 1937 in London , England , † October 1, 2011 ) was a British composer and musician .

Life

David Bedford, born in London in 1937, played or composed classical and popular music. Bedford studied music in London and Venice . Working with musician Kevin Ayers , he met Mike Oldfield . For Oldfield, he led the recording of his album The Orchestral Tubular Bells and created an orchestral version of the follow-up album Hergest Ridge , which was performed but not released. Oldfield also appeared on some of his albums in the 1970s.

Bedford was associated with the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts as a patron.

He died of lung cancer on October 1, 2011 at the age of 74.
