David Bolen
David Bolen ( David Benjamin "Dave" Bolen; born December 23, 1923 in Heflin , Louisiana ) is a former American sprinter and diplomat .
In 1948 he qualified in the US eliminations as second over 400 m for the Olympic Games in London , in which he was fourth.
In 1948 and 1949 he was US indoor champion over 600 yards . He set his personal best over 440 yards of 46.7 s (equivalent to 46.4 s over 400 m) on June 21, 1947 in Salt Lake City .
From 1974 to 1976 he was the US Ambassador to Swaziland , Lesotho and Botswana . From August 22, 1977 to June 20, 1980 he served as the United States' ambassador to the GDR .
