David Cunz

David Cunz (born December 11, 1592 in St. Gallen ; † November 7, 1664 ibid) was Mayor of St. Gallen (Switzerland).

Life

David Cunz was the son of the weaver Gabriel Cunz (* August 8, 1548 in St. Gallen; † August 28, 1604 ibid) and his wife Anna (* July 1560; † July 25, 1641 in St. Gallen), daughter of Kaspar Thuebacher.

He was a tin caster and a member of the blacksmith's guild; from 1626 to 1629 he was guild and old guild master.

From 1630 to 1652 he was a councilor and member of the small council of St. Gallen. From 1652 to 1664 he was there, alternating with Kaspar Friederich , Silvester Hiller (elected 1654), Hans Joachim Friedrich (elected 1655), Hans Joachim Haltmeyer (elected 1660) and Friedrich Buchmann (elected 1663) every three years as Reichsvogt , mayor and former mayor .

David Cunz married Ursula for the first time in 1613 (December 12, 1582 in St. Gallen; † June 5, 1647 there), daughter of Joachim Vonwiller (1553-1620); they had a son together:

  • Jakob Cunz (born February 15, 1622 in St. Gallen; † December 7, 1681 ibid), married to Judith Högger (born January 13, 1625 in St. Gallen; † November 1, 1690), daughter of Sebastian Högger (1592– 1643).

Since 1648 he was in his second marriage to Elisabeth, geb. Schlumpf, widow of Hans Jacob Spengler, office substitute married. She brought a son into the marriage, Johannes Spengler , who later also became mayor of St. Gallen.

In 1655 he married Barbara (November 2, 1592, † April 22, 1678), b. Fitler, widow of Heinrich Rothmund, Vogt von Bürglen and councilor, married.
