David D. Keck

David Daniels Keck (born October 24, 1903 in Omaha , Nebraska , † March 10, 1995 ) was an American botanist who did important work in the field of the taxonomy of bedspamers . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " DDKeck ".

Live and act

He attended Pomona College in California until 1925 . In 1930 he received his PhD in botany from the University of California .

From 1925 to 1950 he worked at the Carnegie Institute of Washington at Stanford University , where he worked with Jens Clausen and William Hiesey to develop new concepts for plant species. In 1949 they jointly received the Mary Soper Pope Memorial Award in the botany category.

From 1950 to 1958, Keck was chief curator of the New York Botanical Garden . In 1959 he published the book A Californian Flora with Philip A. Munz .

Honors

The plant genera Keckia Straw and Keckiella Straw from the plantain family (Plantaginaceae) are named after Keck .
