David Goodwillie (born March 28, 1989 in Stirling ) is a Scottish football player who is currently under contract with FC Aberdeen .
Career
In his youth, Goodwillie played for his hometown club Carse Thistle. He was discovered in 2003 during a training camp in Dundee . He then moved to Dundee United. In March 2005 Goodwillie signed his first professional contract there. Half a year later he came to his first use when he was substituted on in the away game against Glasgow Rangers shortly before the end. He scored his first goal on March 4, 2006 at Hibernian Edinburgh . During the season, Goodwillie made a total of 10 missions, mostly he was substituted on in the final minutes.
In October 2006 he signed a contract that tied him to the club for 4 years. In the first half of the season he came to three missions due to injuries to other strikers. In the second half of the season, however, substitute strikers were committed, which meant that Goodwillie was mostly a substitute.
After he was also only a reserve player in the next season, he was loaned to the Raith Rovers - a club of the Scottish Football League Second Division - until the end of the season. During this time he completed 21 games and scored 9 goals. From 2008 he played again for Dundee United.
He was a regular player in the 2009/10 season and at the end of the season Goodwillie was named the best young player in the league. In May 2010 he scored the first goal in the final of the Scottish FA Cup against Ross County , in the end Dundee won 3-0. At the start of the next season, Goodwillie scored in six consecutive games. Scottish national coach Craig Levein noticed him because of his performances and Goodwilie made his first international match in a friendly 3-0 win against the Faroe Islands on November 16, 2010 when he came on for Kris Commons in the 76th minute . Goodwillie continued to play well, which resulted in several football clubs taking an interest in him. On March 30, 2011, he put an end to speculation about a possible move when he signed a contract extension to 2013 for Dundee United.
On August 3, 2011, Goodwillie moved to the English first division club Blackburn Rovers and signed a four-year contract.
