David Higgins (born November 14, 1972 ) is a British rally driver .

Career

Higgins began his career in the 1994 World Rally Championship at the Rally Great Britain with his co-driver Michael Park , but had to park his Peugeot 106 after an engine failure . The following year he drove with his new co-driver Lloyd Jones in his own team in the Honda Civic to 27th place. In 1996 he drove to the Honda team with Michael Park in the 2-liter world championship in 8th place. In 1997 he retired with his co-driver Trevor Chudleigh at the Rally Australia with electrical problems. With Rory Kennedy he was able to achieve 31st place at the Rally Great Britain in the Seat Ibiza GTi 16 V. From 1998 he drove with his team in the Subaru Impreza . With Chris Wood he reached eleventh place in Great Britain. In 1999 and 2000 he had to park his vehicle with technical problems in all races he had driven. At the 1999 Rally China , for example, a control defect led to an early end. At the Rally Finland 2000 he and his co-driver Shaun O'Gorman had to park his Subaru with mechanical problems.

In 2001 he achieved 11th place for the first time in Great Britain with his new co-driver Craig Thorley . 2002 had to struggle with technical problems again and could not finish a race. He then retired from active rallying for three years and only returned to the World Rally Championship in 2005 . With his co-driver Daniel Barritt , who already sat by his side in the Subaru in 2002, he finished races in the Mitsubishi Lancer for the first time again without technical defects. It was not until the Manx International Rally in Great Britain that he had to give up again prematurely after a fire in his vehicle. In 2007 he started for the first time in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, founded in 2006, and immediately achieved victory in China. In the end he finished 9th in the IRC after this victory and a total of seven stage wins. At the Great Britain Championship he reached sixth place overall after good individual results. In the end of the world championship he finished 26th. The following year he finished third in the Great Britain Championship. After he did not start internationally in 2009, he finished 3rd in the 2010 Rally China Longyou with his new co-driver Ieuan Thomas in the Soueast-Motor Wan Yu Rally Team, which is not part of the World Championship .

In 2017 Higgins took part in the "New England Forest Rally" for the Subaru Rally Team USA and achieved 2nd place in a Subaru WRX behind Travis Pastrana , who also competed in the rally in a Subaru WRX.
