David Kimche

David (Dave) Kimche (* 1928 in London ; † March 8, 2010 in Ramat ha-Sharon near Tel Aviv , Israel ) was an Israeli diplomat and deputy head of the Israeli foreign intelligence service Mossad . At the beginning of his professional career he also worked as a journalist . After his retirement, he worked internationally as a businessman. Kimche died of a brain tumor .

Life

Kimche was born in 1928 in the London borough of Hampstead as the ninth child of parents who had emigrated to England from Switzerland. He emigrated to Palestine in 1946 and later studied humanities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Sorbonne in Paris . He fought as a soldier in the Israeli War of Independence and was wounded. From 1950 he worked for the Mossad, where he rose to the position of deputy head. In 1980 he moved to the Foreign Ministry, where he became Director General. After his resignation in 1986, he became Israel's special envoy for Eastern Europe . Kimche was involved in the publication of several books. With his younger brother Jon Kimche , he wrote a book on the subject of migration before the founding of Israel.

Kimche died of cancer in March 2010 at his home in Ramat Ha-Sharon. He leaves behind his wife Ruth and four children.
