David Levine (pianist)
David Levine (born 1949 in New York City , † June 1993 in Berlin ) was an American pianist .
Life
David Levine received his first piano lessons at the age of seven and later became a master student of Claude Frank , Mieczysław Horszowski and Rudolf Serkin . Levine made a name for himself not only as a soloist and interpreter of contemporary music ( Aribert Reimann , Peter Ruzicka , Manfred Trojahn ), but also as a chamber musician: his partners included the violinists Christian Tetzlaff and Saschko Gawriloff , the cellist Johannes Goritzki, and the baritone Richard Salter and the Auryn Quartet . Since 1977 he lived in Germany. He made numerous radio recordings for the broadcaster Free Berlin . Levine was a member of the Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg . He led a master class for piano at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf . His well-known students include Fazıl Say and Tobias Koch . Levine died at the age of 44 of the immune deficiency disease AIDS .
