David McKenna

David McKenna (born August 14, 1968 in San Diego , California ) is an American screenwriter .

Life

David McKenna graduated from San Diego State University in 1991 . Today he lives married in California and has two sons.

Career

Already at the young age of 26, McKenna sold his first screenplay , American History X . The story of the transformation of a staunch and hateful neo-Nazi into a caring family member was filmed under the direction of Tony Kaye and earned leading actor Edward Norton his second Oscar nomination . His next work, Body Shots , was made into a film in 1999. The thriller thematizes the sexual life of young people, but was sometimes labeled as soft porn. This was followed in 2000 by the script for the action film Get Carter - The truth hurts with Sylvester Stallone . However, this remake of the film Jack reckons from 1971 fell through with many critics. The following year the film Blow with Johnny Depp was released . McKenna adapted the related novel by Bruce Porter about the rise and fall of the drug dealer George Jung . McKenna also wrote the script for the film Bully - These Kids Shocked America , but wanted to remove his name from production. Eventually his name was given under the pseudonym "Zachary Long". Together with David Ayer , McKenna wrote the script for the action film SWAT - The Special Unit . The $ 80 million project is McKenna's largest production and the film has been very successful financially. Also marked by action is the series E-Ring - Military Minds produced by Jerry Bruckheimer , which McKenna came up with together with Ken Robinson . It is about a department in the United States Department of Defense that deals with dangerous special operations . The series was canceled after one season because of unsatisfactory audience ratings .
