David Noon

David Noon (born July 23, 1946 in Johnstown , Pennsylvania ) is an American composer and music teacher.

As a child, Noon first played the clarinet, later also the bassoon, flute and piano. He studied composition with Karl Kohn at Pomona College (Bachelor 1968). He continued his composition training with Darius Milhaud , Yehudi Wyner and Mario Davidovsky , then studied medieval music at New York University and finally musicology and composition at Yale University . As a Fulbright scholar , he attended the Warsaw Conservatory from 1972–73 .

From 1973 to 1976 Noon taught music theory and composition at the Northwestern University Music School . From 1976 to 1977 he was composer in residence at the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos / New Mexico. Since 1981 he has been teaching music history at the Manhattan School of Music . In addition, from 1996 to 1998 he was composer in Residenca at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Divine .

Noon composed a. a. seven string quartets and other chamber music works (including a saxophone quartet), ballet music, songs, church music, a piano concerto and an opera.
