David Onyemata (born November 13, 1992 in Lagos ) is a Nigerian American football player. He plays with the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League (NFL) on the position of defensive tackle .

college

Onyemata, who played soccer as a child , came to Canada to study at the University of Manitoba . It was only there that he got to know American football and started playing this sport because he was looking for a hobby. Showing exceptional talent, he soon made it into the university team. He played 37 games for the bisons, not only being able to set 166 tackles , but also getting 9.5 sacks and two pass defenses.

NFL

Onyemata was in 2016 in both the NFL Draft and the Draft of the CFL selected. He decided against the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the New Orleans Saints , who had chosen him as 120th overall in the 4th round after they had exchanged two five-round picks (2016 and 2017) for this pick with the Washington Redskins , and so on to move forward and be able to choose it.

He was able to establish himself as a professional straight away and was featured in all 16 games in his rookie season; in 2017 he was a starter for the first time .
He also played all games in 2018. In 2019, Onyemata, who was caught by the police in February with marijuana for personal use, was banned by the league for the first game of the season. He enters the remaining games as a starter.
In March he signed a new three-year contract with the Saints for $ 27 million, 18 of which were guaranteed.
