(2330) Ontake is an asteroid located in the outer main belt , which was discovered on February 18, 1977 by the Japanese astronomers Hiroki Kōsai and Kiichirō Furukawa at the Kiso Observatory ( IAU code 381) of the University of Tokyo . The asteroid had already been sighted on March 16 and 21, 1972 under the provisional designation 1972 FG at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj .

The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 33.061 km (± 0.197). The albedo of 0.040 (± 0.008) indicates a dark surface.

(2330) Ontake was at 1 March 1981 after the stratovolcano Ontake named, which is located near the Kiso Observatory. The dedication emphasizes the first ontake eruption in known history in October 1979. Other asteroids named with reference to the Kiso observatory are (2271) Kiso , (2470) Agematsu , (2924) Mitake-mura and (2960) Ohtaki .
