For the 2014/15 season he was the head coach of the fifth-rate SV Wildon . With Wildon he was promoted to the state league in 2016 . For the 2017/18 season he took over the league competitor TuS Heiligenkreuz aW.After three months as the coach of Heiligenkreuz, he became the coach of the league competitor Grazer AK in October 2017 .

At the end of the 2017/18 season he rose with the GAK as master of the Styrian regional league in the regional league middle . After he immediately became autumn champion with the Grazers after promotion, Preiß had to become team boss in January 2019 , since he did not have the trainer license necessary for the 2nd division , while Enrico Kulovits took over the post of head trainer so that the GAK for a license can apply for the second highest division. In June 2019, after his coaching license had also been approved for the 2nd division, he became head coach again. In February 2020, Preiß was given leave of absence, at the time the GAK was in a relegation zone.
