David Requiro

David Requiro (* around 1975 in Oakland / California ) is an American cellist and university professor.

Career

Requiro began his cello training at the age of six. He received his Bachelor of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music ; then he completed his Masters at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor with Richard Aaron . He won prizes at the Washington International Competition , the Irving M. Klein International String Competition , the Gaspar Cassadó International Violoncello Competition in Hachioji and in 2008 won the Naumburg International Violoncello Competition . He was visiting professor at the University of Michigan, artist in residence at the University of Puget Sound and has been teaching cello at the University of Colorado Boulder since 2015 .

As a soloist, he has performed with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra , the National Symphony Orchestra , the Seattle Symphony and other orchestras in the United States. He has given recitals at Carnegie Hall , the Fall Theater in San Francisco and the Kennedy Center, and has worked as a chamber musician with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center , the Seattle Chamber Music Society and the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players and is a founding member of the Baumer String Quartet . In the field of contemporary music he was a partner of Krzysztof Penderecki and Bright Sheng, among others . At the Amsterdam Cello Biennale 2010 he gave the Dutch premiere of Pierre Jalbert's Sonata for Cello and Piano.
