David Tomblin

David Tomblin (born October 18, 1930 in Borehamwood , Hertfordshire , † July 20, 2005 in Buckinghamshire ) was a British director, screenwriter and television producer.

Tomblin began his career in the film business in the late 1940s as a third assistant director . In the 1950s he worked as an assistant director , mainly for television. As a screenwriter, he was involved in three episodes of the British television series number 6 in 1967/68 , of which he also directed three episodes. As a producer, he accompanied the entire production of number 6 . He had already met lead actor Patrick McGoohan at the beginning of the decade while filming the series Secret Order for John Drake ( Danger Man ) and together they developed and produced their joint series with number 6 .

In 1975 and 76 he made four episodes of the science fiction series Moon Base Alpha 1 . A few years earlier he was involved as a writer and director on the series UFO .

As an assistant director, Tomblin has been involved in many well-known film projects and has worked with well-known directors such as Stanley Kubrick and George Lucas . For the latter, worked on all three parts of the original Star Wars saga. During the production of Return of the Jedi , Tomblin shot his own short film, Return of the Ewok, with numerous actors from the actual film.

In 1983 he and director Richard Attenborough for Gandi received the Directors Guild of America Award in the category of best feature film directing.

In 2003, he received the Michael Balcon Award at the British Academy Film Awards for his performance in the film business .
