Dcheira El Jihadia ( Arabic الدشيرة الجهادية, Central Atlas Tamazight ⴷⵛⵉⵔⴰ ⵍⵊⵉⵀⴰⴷⵉⵢⴰ Decira Ljibadiya ) is the third largest city (municipalité) in the province of Inezgane-Aït Melloul in the greater Agadir area in southwest Morocco with around 110,000 inhabitants .
Location and climate
Dcheira El Jihadia is located at a height of only approx. 15 m about 10 km (driving distance) southeast of Agadir on the north bank of the Oued Souss in the west of the Souss plain ; the neighboring towns of Inezgane and Aït Melloul are only about 10 km away. The climate in Dcheira El Jihadia is mostly hot and dry; the sparse rain (approx. 235 mm / year) falls almost exclusively in the winter half-year.
Population development
year | 1994 | 2004 | 2014 |
Residents | 72,251 | 89,367 | 100,336 |
The rapid increase in population is mainly due to the immigration of Berber families from the surrounding mountain regions of the High Atlas or the Anti-Atlas .
economy
The place used to be a small farming community in the west of the Souss plain , but now trade, crafts and various service companies play the dominant economic role. Al Massira international airport is only about 35 km southeast.
History and sights
Nothing is known about the earlier history of the place; the spacious modern city with its mostly three-story residential and commercial buildings - above a ground floor serving as a garage, warehouse or shop - and its straight road network has no historically or culturally significant sights.
