Deadwind (original title: Karppi , after the surname of the main character Sofia Karppi ) is a Finnish crime and drama series by the broadcaster Yle TV2 . It premiered in Finland on March 14, 2018, and was released internationally on Netflix that same day .

style

The genre of the series can mainly be assigned to the crime film , but also contains elements of a thriller and a Nordic noir, i.e. a TV series with a Nordic flair .

The focus is on the series itself - unlike in series such as B. in the law & order franchise - not only on solving the local murder case, but also on the private lives of the two protagonists.

action

Sofia Karppi, a 30-year-old police officer in the police of Helsinki , is charged with the murder of the young Anna Bergendahl. She is supported by Sakari Nurmi, who has recently joined the department and was previously with the white-collar crime department. Little by little, the two uncover a connection between Anna Bergdahl and Alex Hoikkala, a major industrialist from Helsinki. It quickly becomes clear that Anna also had more to do with Hoikkala's company than anyone could have ever suspected before. Meanwhile, Usko Bergdahl, Anna's husband, tries to solve the murder on her own.

It is not exactly easy for Sofia in her private life either: her husband died months ago; Since then she has been widowed and now has to support herself and her children on her own.

characters

Sofia Karppi

Sofia Karppi is a very young and idiosyncratic investigator for the police in Helsinki, who also likes to put herself in one or the other dangerous situation, should this be related to the investigation. This even goes so far that she is finally suspended from duty. However, she then continues to investigate with Sakari on her own and thus contributes significantly to the clarification of the case. She maintains a close friendly relationship with Sakari, but no romance develops from it. Her private life is not exactly easy either: widowed for 2 months, she now has to look after her children by herself.

Sakari "Nurmi" Nurmi

Sakari Nurmi (often just called Nurmi ) is Sofia's partner in the investigation into the Bergdahl case. Originally working in the white-collar crime department, he has been with the homicide squad since that case and has had difficulties getting along with Karppi. However, these difficulties do not last; The two soon cultivated a friendship that is not only omnipresent at work, but also affects Sofia and Nurmi's private lives. Therefore it happens that Nurmi also takes care of Karppi's children. At the end of season 1, it is stated that he would be taking a cure in Italy for a long time due to a physical illness .

Usko Bergdahl

Usko Bergdahl was Anna Bergdahl's husband. He is a taxi driver and tries to uncover Anna's murder by drastic means; most of all, he accuses Alex Hoikkala, with whom Anna had an affair .

Alex Hoikkala

Alex Hoikkala is a large industrialist for a construction company from Helsinki, with whom Anna Bergdahl was in contact, which is why he is one of the suspects. Alex had once taken over the company from his father and is now trying to land a large construction project in Helsinki for his construction company. Hoikkala suffers from bipolar disorder , which is why he was in therapy for some time. It turns out that he was having an affair with Anna.
