Dean Starkey
Dean Starkey (born March 27, 1967 in Park Ridge ) is a former American pole vaulter .
As a student at Illinois College , he won the NCAA indoor championships in 1988 and 1989 and took second place at the 1989 Universiade in Duisburg .
From the beginning of the 1990s it established itself in the adult sector. In 1992 he won the US indoor championships. In 1993 he became US runner-up in the open air and qualified for participation in the 1993 World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart . There he was eliminated in qualification. In the next few years he reached several podiums at US championships.
At the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 1995 , Starkey finished eighth. He finally celebrated the greatest success of his career at the World Athletics Championships in Athens in 1997 . There he won the bronze medal behind Serhiy Bubka (6.01 m) and Maxim Tarasov (5.96 m) with a jumped height of 5.91 m .
Dean Starkey is 1.88 m tall and had a competition weight of 77 kg.
