Deathwitch was a Swedish metal band that was formed in Gothenburg in 1995 and broke up in 2005.
history
The band was founded in 1995 by Niklas "Terror" Rudolfsson. The project was initially a side project of Rudolfsson, who was also active at Sacramentum and Runemagick , among others . Shortly afterwards a permanent line-up had formed, with Rudolfsson on electric guitar and drums, Robert "Reaper" Pehrsson as singer, Fredrik "Af Necrohell" Johnsson on electric guitar and Emma "Lady Death" Karlsson on bass. The band signed a contract with Desecration Records / Necropolis Records and recorded the debut album Triumphant Devastation in the fall of 1995 before it was released in 1996. Johnsson and Karlsson left the band a short time later. This was followed by the next album Dawn of Armageddon on Desecration Records in 1997. Shortly after the release, Pehrsson left the band, whereupon Rudolfsson switched to the vocal position and Corpse came to the band as drummer. Peter “Carnivore” Palmdahl (Ex- Dissection ) joined the line-up as the new bass player and Doomentor as the second guitarist. With this line-up, the band went to Los Angered Recording Studios . During these recordings, the album The Ultimate Death was created , which was released in 1998 via Necropolis Records. In 1999 the band went back to Los Angered Recording Studios. Material from these recordings, as well as other material from the recording session for The Ultimate Death , was released in the same year as Monumental Mutilations album via Necropolis Records. After the release, Palmdahl and Corpse left the band. In 2002 the band consisted of Rudolfsson, who did the vocals and played the electric guitar and bass, guitarist Slade Doom and drummer Dan Slaughter. In this line-up, the band recorded the album Deathfuck Rituals , which was released in late 2002 via Hellspawn Records . In 2003 the band switched to Wicked World Records , a sub-label of Earache Records . In the same year Dan Slaughter was briefly by drummer Morbid Juttu, whereupon the band went to the Fuck Recording and Magick Sound Studio to record the album Violence Blasphemy Sodomy . After the recordings, Dan Slaughter returned to the band. The album was released in 2004 through Wicked World Records. In 2005 the band broke up.
style
The band called their music "Primitive Thrash-Death-Black-Metal". On The Ultimate Death the band played classic, aggressive and simple Death Metal, comparable to the works of Dissection. The album Violence Blasphemy Sodomy was about topics like blood, violence, sex and Satan. It's described as a mix of black and death metal, with thrash metal influences from the San Francisco Bay Area , with the album reminiscent of old recordings by Venom , Repulsion and Death .
