DebConf
The DebConf is an annual conference at which developers of the operating system Debian meet and discuss the future development of the operating system. In addition to workshops and lectures, developers use the opportunity to work together on the software. Since the DebConf 2003 in Oslo this has been reinforced by the DebCamp by providing premises and infrastructure before the DebConf.
history
The first DebConf was convened in 2000 to bring Debian developers and advanced users together in one place at a common time with the common goal of promoting free software. The event should also serve as a meeting point for people who are not Debian enthusiasts, but who are interested in free software and its environment.
With 555 participants from 52 countries, DebConf 2015 in the Heidelberg Youth Hostel was the largest ever.
Content
As can be seen from the DebConf 10 report, among other things, the workshops and lectures do not only revolve around Debian and the goals and problems associated with it, but also cover topics such as the GPL and other licenses, free software , and other Linux distributions and current interests of the users. Thus the conference is not only of interest to Debian developers and users.
Since other Debian derivatives, such as Ubuntu , will benefit from this conference, developers and sponsors of these distributions will also take part. So also is Mark Shuttleworth been present several times on the DebConf as a speaker. The international participants also made progress in the area of localization and made Debian accessible in other countries. DebConf is supported by the Free Software Foundation .
