Harry Decheiver (born March 8, 1970 in Deventer ) is a former Dutch soccer player who played in the Bundesliga for SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund from 1995 to 1999 .
Career
Between 1995 and 1998 Decheiver scored 20 goals in 49 Bundesliga games and was nicknamed "Knipser". In total, he scored 105 goals in 261 league games in the Netherlands and Germany.
Decheiver was under contract with the Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles Deventer until the summer of 1995 , before the then Freiburg trainer Volker Finke discovered him and brought him to Germany. The SC was at risk of relegation and needed a new striker. He scored eleven goals in 22 games in his first season, relegation was achieved with the team. In his second season, he was plagued by injuries and played 19 games in which he scored six goals.
After the Bundesliga relegation in 1997 with SC Freiburg, Decheiver returned to Holland for a short time to FC Utrecht, only to be signed a little later by Borussia Dortmund under coach Nevio Scala . With Borussia Dortmund he became World Cup winner on December 2, 1997 , after he had been substituted in the game against Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte in the 75th minute for Stéphane Chapuisat . Since he was also very prone to injury in Dortmund and could only play eight games, he ended his career after the 1998/99 season at the age of 28 due to a protracted hip injury.
After the career
After his active career, Harry Decheiver and his wife owned a video rental shop in Deventer for a few years , sold them in 2009 and worked for a company in the personnel management sector.
Since August 1, 2005, he has been the coach of the amateur club Helios Deventer and was also coach of another amateur club in Deventer for a few years. Since January 2016 he has been an assistant coach at Go Ahead Eagels.
