Deanery Brixen im Thale

It includes six parishes in Brixental , a side valley of the Inn Valley near Wörgl .

History
The original parish of the Brixental, Brixen im Thale, was built in the 8th century, perhaps in the 7th century, and is one of the oldest mother parishes in Tyrol. The parish initially included Brixen, Westendorf, Hopfgarten, Kirchberg and Aschau. From 1216 the parish was subordinate to the Diocese of Chiemsee , then to the Diocese of Salzburg , and from 1280 to the Diocese of Regensburg . It was not until the end of the 18th century that the Brixental came to Salzburg as a church, and in 1816 the complete organizational unification of the Brixental was decided.

The parish of Hopfgarten, where two of its own priests had been resident since around 1400, and which was a vicariate from 1669, was elevated to a parish in 1858, four more parishes were created in 1891, and Brixen a deanery. When the diocese of Innsbruck was established in 1964 , the Brixental along with all of eastern North Tyrol remained near Salzburg.

Parish associations have recently been set up so that only two pastors are active in Brixental.

Organization
The parishes form three parish associations :

  1. Brixen im Thale - Kirchberg in Tirol - Westendorf (eastern Brixental with southern side valleys)
  2. Hopfgarten - Itter - Kelchsau (western Brixental with side valley)

Deans

  • 1983–2013 Gustav Leitner
  • since 2013 Sebastian Kitzbichler, pastor of Hopfgarten im Brixental
