Kelchsau is the name of a valley and a village in the Kitzbühel Alps in Tyrol .
valley
The Kelchsau (also called Kelchsau Valley or Kelchsauer Valley ) extends south from Hopfgarten im Brixental . After around 10 km, the valley forks in the western Langen and the eastern Kurzen Grund , which extend to the main ridge of the Kitzbühel Alps on the border with Salzburg with its peaks up to 2500 m high. The valley is traversed by the Kelchsauer Ache, which flows into the Brixentaler Ache at Hopfgarten . Neighboring valleys are the Wildschönau in the west and the Windau in the east. In terms of transport, the valley is accessible via an 8.3 km long state road (L205, Kelchsaustraße).

The Rotte Kelchsau is a village in the market town of Hopfgarten im Brixental with 684 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). Kelchsau is located in the valley of the same name at 790 m above sea level. A. , around 7 km south of the community capital Hopfgarten. In addition to the village of Kelchsau, the village includes the scattered houses Kelchsau-scattered houses, Kurzer Grund and Langer Grund as well as numerous individual farms, alpine pastures, hunting lodges and shelters.
history
The place arose in the 12th century as a clearing settlement . The settlement Kelchsau developed around a Schwaighof , which was raised to a Meierhof , which was first mentioned in 1272 as Chelsowe and in 1297 as Chelichsaw . Kelchsau was originally part of the independent municipality of Hopfgarten-Land, which was merged with Hopfgarten-Markt in 1948. In church terms, Kelchsau initially belonged to the original parish of Brixen im Thale , like Hopfgarten , and later to the parish of Hopfgarten. In 1851 the church of St. Rupert inaugurated, in 1891 Kelchsau made an independent parish.
tourism
Tourism is bi-seasonal, although significantly more overnight stays are recorded in winter. Kelchsau has a small ski area right in the village with a chair lift and drag lifts as well as a children's area and is connected to the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental by ski bus .
In summer, tourism in Kelchsau is characterized by the intensive agricultural use of the countless alpine pastures and the products made from them (milk, butter, cheese, bacon, etc.). The two reasons (Kurzer and Langer Grund) offer extensive hiking opportunities. The Kelchsau is a stage destination on the "KAT Walk", a long-distance hiking trail through the Kitzbühel Alps.
