The family business, now run by the third generation of the brothers Dominique and Etienne Demaurex, achieved a turnover of 153 million Swiss francs in 2006 and is the largest food wholesaler in French-speaking Switzerland .
The company was founded in 1923 by the brothers Paul and Ernest Demaurex. Under the management of Pierre Demaurex, son of Ernest Demaurex, the first wholesale store opened in Geneva in 1966. This was followed three years later by another market in Chavannes. The third wholesale store opened in autumn 2005 in Sion and the fourth in January 2012 in Matran.
In September 2017, Demaurex acquired the Cash + Carry Angehrn division from the Migros wholesale subsidiary Saviva AG.
