Demetrio Ribes y Marco

Demetrio Ribes y Marco (born December 22, 1875 in Valencia ; † November 3, 1921 there ) was a Spanish architect and builder .

Life

He began his training in Valencia, then he studied mathematical physics in Barcelona . Here he wrote his doctoral thesis in 1902, "Determinación del elástico de un cuerpo en equilibrio" (German: Determination of elastic bodies in equilibrium, reinforced concrete in industrial use). Ribes then studied architecture in Madrid .

Ribe was interested in the work of the well-known Austrian architect Otto Wagner . His work is shaped by the stylistic trends of the time, such as eclecticism , modernism and rationalism . His architectural style primarily represents industrial use using reinforced concrete , which was still quite new at the time . From 1903 to 1921 he was mainly a builder and architect for the company Compañía de los Caminos de Hierro del Norte de España (short: CCHNE) active. Demetrio Ribes built mainly factory buildings, warehouses, office buildings and train stations for the Spanish railway company. In addition to the railway activity, he worked as a consultant for other contract partners such as the Columbus Market Francisco Mora, the city administration of Valencia and also constructed private buildings. In 1916 he founded his own construction company Coloma-Ribes Constructions with engineer Joaquin Coloma , which was the first specialized reinforced concrete construction company in Valencia.

The versatile architect, who died at the age of 46, left a great cultural legacy in Spain, especially in the Autonomous Community of Valencia .
