Denis Nikolajewitsch Boizow ( Russian Денис Николаевич Бойцов , English transcription: Denis Boytsov ; born February 14, 1986 in Orjol , Soviet Union ) is a Russian boxer.
amateur
Boizow had severe health problems (heart, spine) as a teenager, but was able to win three world championship titles despite a relatively short amateur career: In the cadet age group (U-17) in 2001 in Baku in the light middleweight and in 2002 in Kecskemét in the light heavyweight, as well as the juniors 2004 in Jeju as a super heavyweight. At the European Cadet Championships in Lviv in 2002 , he finished second because he was unable to compete in the final because of an injury.
His balance is 115-15. Already at the age of 18, before transferring to the senior class of amateurs, Boizow became a professional.
Professional career
In 2004 Boizow switched to the pros and signed his first professional contract with Spotlight Boxing . His trainer at the time was Fritz Sdunek . On September 9, 2006 he won the vacant junior title of the WBC association by defeating the Czech Ondřej Pála . From 2007 Boizow was under contract with Universum Box-Promotion . Denis Boizow won his first fight for Universum on January 27, 2007 against Sam Ubokane by knocking out in the first round. On January 19, 2008, he defeated Tommy Connelly by TKO in the first round. He then defeated Robert Hawkins, Fernely Feliz and Vinny Maddalone each on points. On February 7, 2009 Boizow fought against Israel Carlos Garcia for the WBA Intercontinental title. He defeated Garcia by TKO in the second round and thus won his first senior title. His first title defense took place on June 6, 2009 in the König-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen against Taras Bidenko . In this fight between two stable colleagues Boizow won by knockout in the sixth round. Bidenko suffered his third defeat. Boizow won his next fight against the American Jason Gavern by knockout in the seventh round. On January 9, 2010 he defeated Kevin Montiy in the Bördelandhalle Magdeburg by knockout in the second round. On November 19, 2010 Boizow defeated Mike Sheppard by knockout; Sheppard went down several times in the 1st and 2nd round. After the insolvency of his boxing stable Universum Box-Promotion, he signed a contract with Sauerland Event in July 2013 . On November 23, 2013 Boizow lost against the Australian Alex Leapai , who had him in the seventh and ninth on the ground, unanimously on points.
Boizow played his last professional fight on March 21, 2015 in Rostock against the Brazilian Irineu Beato Costa Junior. Boizow won this fight after Irineu Beato Costa Junior's corner gave up the fight in round 2 by throwing in the towel.
On May 3, 2015, Boizow was found in a Berlin subway tunnel with severe head injuries and alcohol in his blood and was then put into an artificial coma. Due to a lack of evidence of a crime, the public prosecutor closed the investigation in June 2015. After evaluating witness statements and video recordings, the police assumed an accident, the exact circumstances remained unclear. Boizov had several head operations and was in a coma for almost seven weeks. He was then able to breathe independently, but had to be fed artificially, but could neither move nor speak. About a year later, Boizow, who was meanwhile housed in a Berlin hospital, had regained simple movements thanks to various therapeutic measures, but was still unable to speak, was still confined to bed and had to be nursed.
