Monuments in Baden

The monument system in Baden began with the official registration of antiquities and works of art in the 1840s. This registration took place after a decree from Grand Duke Leopold to the district authorities .

In 1853 August von Bayer was appointed as the first curator of the state preservation of monuments in the Grand Duchy of Baden .

Ernst Wagner , who had been the curator of art monuments since 1875 and at the same time director of the grand ducal antiquities collection in Karlsruhe , published the basic archaeological inventory of sites and finds from prehistoric, Roman and Alemannic-Franconian times in the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1911 .

In 1934 the Baden State Office for Monument Preservation was founded. It was initially located at the Badisches Landesmuseum and its director Hans Rott initially took over the management.

The Baden State Office for Monument Preservation published the series Die Kunstdenkmäler Baden from 1933 to 1967.

After the Second World War , South Baden passed the first Baden Monument Protection Act in July 1949. When the third state parliament of Baden-Württemberg dealt with uniform state legislation in 1962, it served as a starting point.
